California Trip '07

We left San Antonio with our good friends, Fred & Faye Merkel on Jan. 2, 2007 for our journey west. Travel wasn't bad until we had to exit the interstate at Van Horn, TX because of ice & snow on the road but that only delayed us about an hour. Then, as we left Yuma, AZ, we had the sand storms! Wow, sand was blowing across I-8 into drifts just like snow back home! We made it safe & sound and stayed in Lake Jennings County RV Park just east of San Diego. What a nice place in the hills with walking trails and private campsites. We had a wonderful visit with Dave & Sandra Harrison and Paul & Lena Jones in San Diego. Dave gave us the "grand tour" and we enjoyed the food, fun & fellowship with these dear friends.

After leaving San Diego, we headed north to Hemet, CA. There we stayed at Mountain Shadows Retirement RV Park with my Uncle Don & Aunt Maxine Hathaway. We took Fred & Faye to see the Crystal Cathedral -- a dream Faye has had for years. It brought tears to her eyes to finally be able to see this amazing structure she had seen on TV for so long!
Jenni & Dottie and Tara & Wayne joined us in Hemet for some hiking in the hills and eating out at Polly's, one of Don & Maxine's favorites.

Then it was on to LA & the Hollywood Hills where we met up with cousin Stan Hathaway & J. Paul. Stan took us on a tour of his architectural offices as well as LA & Hollywood. He has a beautiful home in the Hollywood Hills as you can see from the photos. We spent Saturday night there and headed back to Hemet the following morning after taking Jenni & Dottie to LA Int'l. Airport.

Our next stop will be Mesa, AZ and then on to Kino Bay, Mexico....
